Meet
​Bob Williams

Running for fitness or competition should be a pleasurable experience. You can define success
with faster times or completion of a long distance race but without the
joy of the day to day process or “the journey” you may not be able to
sustain the energy necessary 

to maintain the habit of this wonderful form of fitness activity. Bob’s training principles and guidelines are
based on the theory of training and coaching of Bill Bowerman and the
latest in exercise physiology research and applied theory through USATF
coaching seminars.

The various training methods I use are a direct result of my experience as a competitive distance runner at the University of Oregon from 1964 to 1967. My mentor and coach, Bill Bowerman taught me many things but primarily that rest and recovery are critical for short and long term development. I was an integral part of the original Jogging programs Bill started for the Eugene community in 1966 as a result of his experience in New Zealand 1964.

Developed by Bob Williams, a Bowerman protegee and All-American steeplechaser at the University of Oregon, The Bob Williams Pace Calculator provides a fast, accurate heart rate calculator for gauging the intensity of a training session.

Why? Because accurate pace verification is the essence of intelligent, productive training. And with The Bob Williams Pace Calculator all the time and distance information needed to set and check a runner's pace is made immediately available, simply by manipulating the slide scale.

The Bob Williams Pace Calculator breaks its data into two groups, "Track" and "Road."

The Track Side

  • 4 scales match times and distances
    • 100m to 400m - including 150m
    • 400m to 1 mile - including 500m
    • 1600m to 5k
    • 5k to 10k
  • time increments as tight as 2/10 of a second
  • lap scale is combined with each 400M split to facilitate quick pace updates
 

The Road Side

  • Scale registers a runner's mile pace, from 4:00 to 10:00 minutes
